  • Skinny Body, Skinny Saddle?

    In todays post, Precision Cycle Fit take a look at whether perceived body type is a good predictor for appropriate saddle width with some surprising results that could help you find more power and comfort. I’m your typical male cyclist: 5’9, 70kg with a slim, athletic build and a penchant for sexy, lightweight parts. Since my formative years of cycling were the early 1990’s this naturally meant my saddle of choice was the Selle Italia Flite Titanium.  The Flite really was an iconic saddle.  So iconic that you can still buy the exact same saddle today. Back then we didn’t consider whether a saddle was the right width or not.  Racy cyclists had narrow, lightweight saddles, leisure riders had fatter and heavier saddles. Nothing really changed until Terry introduced the Liberator saddle with a slot to reduce numbness in both men and women. Now we know a lot more and saddle manufacturers usually produce saddles in three widths: 130 - 135mm 140 - 145mm 150 - 155mm Each manufacturer has their slight variation on this so it might be 135mm, 143mm of 152 mm, measured at the widest point of the saddle towards the rear.  Oh, and then there are the outliers such as Brooks which are very narrow at the nose and wide at the rear, and those with ‘2-pronged noses’ such as ISM which are the opposite. Measuring your sit bones exactly is quite an intrusive procedure so it’s great that there is also a simple DIY method involving a piece of kitchen foil and your stairs. Place the foil on a step, sit on it, rock around a bit to make two indentations, find the two centers of the indentations, and measure between them to find you ‘sit bone width’, or a good approximation of. The tools you will find in bike shops and fit studios are slightly more sophisticated versions of the stair-foil method.  They are easier to use as you sit on a gel pad which has a grid underneath so both the indents and measurements are easy to see.  We use the Pro Saddle Measurement Cube at Precision Cycle Fit and the ranges / recommendations are: Having tried the foil method before buying the proper tool, I was shocked to find my sit bone measurement was around 12.5cm, so according to the rule of thumb of ‘add 20mm to your sit bone width to get your saddle width’ meant I should have been on a 145mm wide saddle. So, I bought the tool, and it told me the same thing!  Obviously, it was this that had been holding back my ultimate performance all these years.  I jest but persevere because what I discovered was very interesting. Keen to understand what this would mean from a ride-feel perspective, I brought my Kinesis R2 on which I’d been riding around 80 miles per week throughout winter to the studio to investigate. Since around 2005, I’ve been riding Selle Italia SLR saddles for everything other than TT / Tri. Mostly with the ‘Flow’ or ‘Superflow slot and most recently the ‘Boost’ models with a shorter nose.  I’ve also been experimenting with the Novus Boost Superflow on my MTB and Gravel bikes which is more comfort-oriented and thus well suited to the Kinesis. Being slim and racy, I obviously started out by buying the narrower 130mm wide S3 model (bottom in photo below).  To conduct the experiment, I bought the exact same saddle in an L3 size with a 145mm max width. Without going down the rabbit hole of saddle shape and geometry, I popper the L3 on in the exact same location of the S3 and… didn’t like it. But then I took it (the wider L3 saddle) out on the road and straight away I could feel how much more support it was giving me.  I’d never felt unsupported before, but all of a sudden, I was more planted on the bike and noticeably more powerful. So, I’m sold.  I’ve just bought a new SLR Boost Superflow in an L3 width for my road bike and we’ll see if the same result holds true in a racier position. Back to where we started: Skinny Body, Skinny Saddle?  Nope.

  • When is the Best Time to Get a Bike Fit? Tips From Precision Cycle Fit, A Professional Bike Fitting Service in Warwickshire

    Introduction For our latest blog post, the topic regards a question that any cyclist who has considered a Bike Fit will have asked: When is the Best Time to Get a Bike Fit? Whether you're an experienced cyclist or just starting your riding journey, understanding the importance of your position on the bike and when it’s best to investigate and change it is crucial to your enjoyment and success in our beautiful sport. The Big Event Imagine you’ve got a big event coming up.  As you are a cyclist, it could be a cycling event, but it could be anything really.  As long as it’s important to you: Booking a holiday, paying your tax bill, writing a blog post.  Can you tell what has been occupying the author’s mind of late? You know when all these things need to happen, and you’ve probably got a good idea of how much is involved in achieving them, especially if you’ve done it before. So, when do you start preparing? Let’s look at the cycling event example.  I’ve been racing bikes for nearly three decades so I know a few things about how I should prepare and here are two commonly experienced extremes of the preparation spectrum: If things are normal, I’m basically fit and motivated: o   I can perform well with 8 weeks of training. o   If I want to do really well, I’ll need 12 weeks. o   But is more like 16 weeks for a big race with hopes of a Podium Place. If things are abnormal, I’m unfit and / or I’ve just remembered I entered this race with plenty of time to prepare but for whatever reason, didn’t: o   8 weeks might just get me through with a decent performance. o   I can probably get through it with zero training but it’s gonna hurt a lot.  And I won’t be troubling the Podium. So, when do I start training?  Well in my serious racing days, I’d give it the full 16 weeks.  But nowadays I suffer increasingly from CBB (Can’t Be Bothered) syndrome, so I know that realistically, 8-10 weeks is the most I’m going to manage effectively.  Any less and I’ll be under-trained but motivated.  Any more I’ll be mentally over it, I might have peaked early, and it’s likely the race has become a burden. So, returning to the topic; When is the Best Time to Get a Bike Fit? The Best Time to Get a Bike Fit - Most Cyclists I can answer most cycling questions with three stock answers: 1.      As Soon As Possible. 2.      It Depends. 3.      Maybe. Option 3 is not a suitable answer to this question.  So, should you err more towards the ‘As Soon As Possible’ or the ‘It Depends’ option? Unlike my race analogy above where the best answer is ‘It Depends’, for a Bike Fit, the best answer is almost always ‘As Soon As Possible’ because the likelihood of a Bike Fit being too soon for most people is very low and the associated risk is similarly low. If you’ve read my website or other articles, you’ll know that there is no ‘Single Bike Fit Position’.  The best any bike fitter can do is to put you in the optimum position there and then.  What a good bike fitter will try and do is to determine your ‘Bike Fit Window’ and position you appropriately within it based on what you want to achieve, where you are in relation to that achievement and the data and observations gathered during the session. When I write my Client Bike Fit Report, I will always provide some ‘Simple Recommendations’ to allow riders to be confident to make small future changes, and in which direction to make them. For example, the report might say something like: Saddle Height: 735mm.  Simple Recommendation: 5-10mm higher, but no lower.  Or: Stem Length: 100mm.  Simple Recommendation: 90mm, but no shorter etc… Thus, should the rider feel they want to tweak things in response to normal changes such as warmer weather (see my blog on Winter Bike Fit here), improved fitness, flexibility etc, riders are empowered to try things themselves at low risk.  And of course, if this doesn’t work or more advice is required, they are always welcome to pick up the phone and talk things through. For most cyclists, the answer to the question “When is the Best Time to Get a Bike Fit” is: "As Soon As Possible". But there are ‘It Depends’ considerations as well, which are most likely associated with a specific stretch-objective like a particular race result or important event.  Or a new bike! The Best Time to Get a Bike Fit – Racers (For a Normal UK Race Season March to Aug) Everyone wants to start the new race season in top form: Race fit and healthy. Perfectly fitted to their bike (remember our strapline: Rider and Bike as One) The best way to ensure you are in top form for the Race Season is to get your Bike Fit conducted as early in the Off Season as possible September Let’s say the race season finished at the end of August / start of September.  At this point, you are likely to be all the above things. You’re also likely to be ready to put the bike away and forget about it for a while.  Now is the time for beer, cake and friends. But, if you can face it, why not consider having a Bike Fit as the last thing you do in the race season?  Because the longer you leave it, the further away from this condition you will become. October After a month or so, you are probably ready to pick up the bike again.  You’ll still be fit and strong, but not as much as you were, and likely a bit less flexible.  This would still be an excellent time to get your Bike Fit conducted. October might be the optimal time for non-professional cyclists to have a Bike Fit, when real world considerations are taken into account. For example, you may have ended the season with some injuries and niggles that you need to recover from.  Also don’t discount the mental element:  If you just want the season to end now, getting a Bike Fit when you ‘CBB’ is not going to yield the best result. October is also the time when people start to motivate themselves by buying some shiny new kit.  So, if you finish your race season knowing a new bike is on its way, there is no point getting fitted until you have that in your possession.  It’s the same but to a lesser degree if you are going to change your shoes, skinsuit or aero helmet. At this time of year, you might even be able to get out and ride this position on the road, not just indoors on the Turbo Trainer, so if you can, getting a Bike Fit in October is a very good idea. November So, you’ve just missed the peak window, but it’s still better than delaying it any further, and this is a popular time for many riders.  The weather is now probably unsuited to riding your race bike outside, especially if it is a TT bike.  But the way a lot of people train over winter now, using indoor trainers with race simulations, does mean you can get a lot of meaningful riding done in your new position, providing plenty of adaptation and familiarization time. Don’t forget that riding inside is not the same as riding on the road though.  You don’t need to look ahead, and you don’t need to go around corners, up hills or deal with side winds and other vehicles.  So, whilst you might be comfortable and, more importantly, confident knocking out 300W indoors with your new super-aero, super-narrow bar position, that doesn’t mean you are ready to unleash it in anger on the road (ask me how I know this...and 300W is a dream for me nowadays)! December Same as November really, with the added pressure that you’ll have family commitments over the festive period and all your money will have been spent on presents, or if you are newly self-employed, the Tax Man. Justifying the cost of a Bike Fit to your partner at this time might be tricky! Or it could be a handy Christmas Present idea. January The time when all serious athletes must avoid the gym and swimming pool as it’s filled with good intentioned ‘new athletes’.  Personally, I never start making any new year assertions, or even start training until at least the second or third week of this month to avoid excess undue pressure and potential failure.  Just getting through normal life at this time of the year can be hard enough. But it is important to start thinking, even if it’s not actual planning or doing.  Most everyone else will be feeling / doing the same thing and bike fitting appointments for February, March and beyond will be filling quickly. February You should now be consistently knocking out the base miles on the road, but most likely on your winter bike, which should have a different Bike Fit to your race bike (if you missed it the first time, see my blog on Winter Bike Fit: here).  Winter riding is one of my favorite types of riding; When it’s just you and your bike battling the elements.  Especially if you’ve fitted mudguards! The positives of getting a Bike Fit now are that your body will be well adapted back into the riding position and its associated stresses and strains. The downside is you will probably be less flexible, unless you have followed coaches’ instructions to do ‘strength and flexibility conditioning over winter’.  What do you mean you thought this was an optional suggestion? This is where the importance of your Bike Fitter understanding your Bike Fit Window bears out, with suggestions such as “When you can stand and touch the floor without your tendons snapping, that is the time you can lower your stem height by 5mm.  5mm only mind.  Not 10mm”. March Race season is nearly upon us.  In fact, for some, it’s already started.  If you get a Bike Fit now, you won’t have weeks and weeks of being able to acclimatize to it indoors, but on the plus side, you’ll have plenty of miles in your legs and decent flexibility, not too compromised by cold weather and thick winter clothing. Also, you’ll be more likely to be able to ride on the open road so ‘real adaptation’ will occur more quickly.  What I mean by this is not just the standard biomechanics of riding, but also riding in an environment with noise factors such as bumpy roads, changeable weather, and traffic. March is an excellent time to get a bike fit for many reasons, which means it’s also a popular time so get booked in quickly! The Race Season April - September Racing has definitely started now so you need to think about medium to long term gain vs short term pain. If you get a Bike Fit now, you need to accept that you’ll be doing some races in an unfamiliar position.  Initially this may compromise your performance, but it’s an investment for the future.  At this stage, you’re probably only looking at an adaptation time of 2 to 3 weeks if you ride in that position regularly, so all is not lost. Most Bike Fitters have their busiest periods between March and July as riders react to their goal, not plan for it. This is fine, you’ll still get meaningful advantages, but don’t have a Bike Fit less than 4 weeks prior your major race or event of the season, unless something significant has happened in the lead up to it. Conclusion For most cyclists, the answer to the question “When is the Best Time to Get a Bike Fit is: As Soon As Possible. For racing cyclists, or those with a specific big goal, the answer to the same question is: It depends… …with the probable answer being: As Soon As Possible… …and the important caveat: At least 4 weeks before your goal.   • How To Get The Best Winter Bike Fit - Tips From Precision Cycle Fit, A Professional Bike Fitting Service In Warwickshire

    Welcome to our latest blog post, where we delve into topic of riding your bike comfortably throughout winter and provide some indispensable tips for achieving the optimal winter bike fit. The Winter Road Bike I've chosen a 54cm Kinesis R2 '4-Seasons' Road Bike for 2023/24 winter riding duties. The only changes from stock spec are the tyres and saddle. Kinesis are stalwarts of the British Road Riding Scene majoring on Practicality and Robustness over Glitz and Glamour. In Great Britain, the vast difference in weather between summer and winter means that it often makes sense for cyclists to have more than one bike (as if you needed justification!). Traditionally, for a year-round road rider, racer or time triallist, you’d have your ‘best bike’ for use in the summer and then your ‘winter bike’, or ‘hack bike’ as they were affectionately called.  This was usually either a demoted ‘best bike’ (which was probably not very fit-for-purpose other than you had it already), or a proper winter bike mainly characterized by less aggressive geometry, more robust construction and, most importantly, mudguards. Consideration #1 Mudguards Mudguards are not cool, right?  But once you’ve ridden a winter with them, you’ll never do another without and having a frame with mounts to fit proper guards is the key to winter riding success. Why do I say that?  Well, joyful cycling is all about comfort.  Comfort drives everything.  There is no race speed without comfort and there is no getting up in the dark on a cold, wet winter’s morning without the promise of comfort. Or, at least, minimal discomfort. I’m not convinced that disc brakes are required on a summer road bike, but they can bring a lot of advantages to a winter road bike.  For one, disc brakes usually work better in the rain than rim brakes.  For two they free up a whole load of clearance for wider tyres.  With rim brakes, you could only really get away with a 28mm tyre and ‘guard beneath the caliper.  But with discs, there is literally no limit. For me, riding around the roads of Warwickshire, I like a quality 700c tubeless tyre of 30-32mm width (as measured, rather than what it says on the sidewall – Gerard Vroomen calls this WAM – Width As Measured which goes hand in hand with RAM - Radius As Measured) to give me the best compromise between bump-absorption, grip and speed, in that order. Lots of focus has been provided recently on tyre width because its easy to understand and measure. Tyre height is also very important as it's the other characteristic that controls the volume of the tyre and hence the amount of air supporting your weight and absorbing irregularities in the road or trail surface. RAM is the best measure of this, but its often easier to measure the height of the tyre from the rim. Tyre Height comes out as 28mm for these tyres. Please excuse the parallax errors in this and some other photos. Oh, and finally, mudguards can look very cool if they are the right ‘guards on the right bike. These are aluminium Kinesis Fend Off's. And they'd look even better with black stays. Consideration #2 Winter Bike Geometry A winter bike should have a more relaxed geometry.  You are not racing so you don’t need that more powerful, aerodynamic position where you can’t see the road (or flooded pot-hole) ahead.  You might even be inclined to engage in social club or group riding where the ability to sit upright and talk to your neighbour is more important than a 20W aerodynamic saving. ‘Relaxed Geometry’ usually means a taller head tube, longer front and rear centers (the distance between the bottom bracket and front and rear axles) and shallower angles all of which combine to create more stable handling, and space for mudguards without toe-overlap (where your shoes clash with your ‘guards when turning your front wheel). This is what toe overlap looks like, when your front wheel / mudguard clashes with your shoe. It doesn't happen very often (usually at junctions when you are trying to balance with one foot forward whilst simultaneously making a tight turn), but its not nice when it does so do anything you can to minimize it. Consideration #3 Winter Riding: How Flexible Are You? Winter is cold.  Winter is wet.  Both these characteristics conspire to make your body less flexible.  You’re also likely to be wearing thicker, water-resistant clothing which makes you even less flexible as a winter-clothed-rider system, and no cyclist should be unclothed during winter riding. Consideration #4 What is the Best Bike Fit for Your Winter Bike? So, we finally come to the meat of the topic, "What is the Best Bike Fit for Your Winter Bike?" If we return to the traditional year-round road rider mentioned at the beginning of this article, there were two main schools of thought when it can to the set-up or fit of their winter bike: 1.       Carry over their ‘best’ or ‘race’ bike set-up to the winter bike to be acclimatized to that position when the race season starts. 2.       Accept that winter riding is different to summer riding and create an optimized position more suited to the aims of winter riding and the limits imposed by the conditions. The advantages of Approach 2. are that you are more likely to get to the start of the summer or race season in better shape because you are less likely to have crashed.  You are probably fitter because you have ridden more frequently, which perhaps also means you are more flexible and have attained a good cycling posture.  And transitioning from a regularly-ridden winter position to a summer position is the work of a few weeks’ adaptation, and likely takes much less time than if you have infrequently ridden through winter in your summer position. Approach 2. does not ignore your summer position; it just tweaks it.  All good bike fits start with the feet so let’s go through each element to give you the best chance of a safe and enjoyable winter riding experience. Consideration #5 Winter Bike Fit: Feet Most cyclists who come to Precision Cycle Fit have their cleats positioned too far forward.  Often this is imposed by the position of the cleat holes in the shoes.  From a bike-fit perspective, 'more-rearward' cleats are usually more desirable than 'more-forward' cleats from an pedaling efficiency and injury prevention perspective. But there can be some advantages of slightly forward cleats when winter riding in that this has the effect of moving your shoe rewards on the pedal thus reducing the risk of toe overlap described and demonstrated above. Dedicated winter shoes are by necessity bulkier than summer shoes.  You may also have decided to ‘size-up’ to allow space for thick socks (I do).  Even if you are just wearing overshoes, the combination is bigger and therefore more likely to clash against parts of your bike, not just the guards but also the cranks and chainstays. The shoes on the left are my summer Bont Vaypors; Beautiful shoes with a very stiff 'bathtub' carbon sole, and leather uppers. On the right are my winter road shoe; very effective water-resistant Shimano SH-RW500-SL (catchy name). They are both size 42, but externally, the Shimano's are about 15mm longer and exactly the same width. This additional bulk can apply to the soles of the shoes as well.  This is technically known as the ‘stack height’ of the shoe.  For the best pedaling efficiency and for feeling ‘connected’ to the bike, a low stack height is preferred, but in winter shoes, it’s inevitably higher.  Thus, your saddle height is effectively reduced when you are wearing your winter shoes, insoles and socks. In the shoes shown above there is little noticeable shoe stack height difference, but its a very difficult thing to measure and is probably best determined by riding both sets back to back inside. My thicker winter socks add a couple of mm though, resulting in a reduced 'effective saddle height'. Additionally, more forward cleats also have the effect of reducing the effective saddle height. But don’t despair, not yet anyway, because other elements of your winter clothing ensemble may counter-act this, and the cold weather will likely reduce your flexibility, so a lower effective saddle height may be just what you need!  Unless you are one of those rare breeds who follow coaches’ advice to do core work and stretching in the off season… …do read on… Consideration #6 Winter Bike Fit: Undercarriage/Bottom You’ll often be wearing thicker shorts or tights during winter.  This may add a few mm to your ‘effective undercarriage’ (or bottom), which is effectively increasing your saddle height. Saddle fore/aft position is the major driver to how balanced you are on the bike.  In general, you want to be as far forward on your bike as you can be without ‘falling off the front of it’.  This is especially the case for racing cyclists where this position allows improved power and aerodynamics.  Similarly, triathletes often adopt a very forward seating position to enable a more open hip angle which can ease the transition from bike position to run position. But you are unlikely to be racing in winter, so you might want to shift that saddle back a bit.  This will reduce the amount of weight going through your hands (usually around 15%) as more of it is supported by your pelvis and legs.  Your hands can get numb from the cold during winter so further reducing the potential for numbness by reducing the weight going through them makes a lot of sense. If you are going to be following the traditional ‘long, slow miles’ winter riding routine, you may also want to consider a different saddle shape.  A flat saddle is better for aggressive riding positions associated with power, aerodynamics, and speed.  But a more upright riding position (discussed further below) may mean that a saddle with a ‘wavy’ profile is more suitable during winter.  Like shoes, different saddles have different stack heights so always ensure that you take this in to account by inserting your seatpost further into the seat tube (for a thicker saddle), or pulling it out (for a thinner saddle). My summer bike is fitted with a Selle Italia SLR Boost Flow saddle (top) which has a stack height of 39mm vs the 47mm stack height of the saddle I use in the winter; a Selle Italia Novus Boost Flow. The SLR has a 'Flat' profile to enable an aggressively low torso angle whilst the Novus is 'Wavy' and provides support for an upright riding position. Finally, it’s important to note that fore/aft adjustment of the saddle will affect your reach to the handlebars which we will consider further in the following paragraphs. Consideration #7 Winter Bike Fit: Torso The main impact on your torso during winter riding is likely going to be a conscious decision to have a more upright riding position which is inherently more comfortable and safer.  A more upright position affords better viewing of the road hazards ahead and also improve your ability to deal with them. This is because your upper body system is more relaxed and therefore has more compliance to deal with inputs (e.g. bump absorption where your relaxed arms and shoulders can better act as shock absorbers) and deliver outputs (e.g. quick steering actions to avoid obstacles). A more upright torso can most easily be achieved by riding on the hoods or tops of the bars.  But don’t neglect the drops.  The drops are where you are most ‘locked in’ to your bike giving you the most secure position.  It’s also the position where your access to the brake levers and the amount of power you can apply to them is at its greatest. Finally, remember the wind?  It’s the enemy of every cyclist and sadly is very prominent in winter.  The aero tuck position allowed by riding in the drops can be very beneficial in beating that pesky headwind on the return to home (its always in your face on the way home, isn’t it?  Even if it was in your face on the way out as well). So, we don’t want to restrict your winter riding position to just the hoods or tops.  This will usually mean a shorter stem and / or raised bar height.  Bar height has little impact on the handling of your bike but a shorter stem will quicken the steering, going against the ‘slower’, more stable handling we want from our winter bike. It’s worth bearing in mind that a lot of winter bikes, endurance bikes and gravel bikes already have a reduced ‘reach’ (the horizontal dimension between the bottom bracket and the top of the head tube), so it may well be that if you have purchased a dedicated bike for winter riding, it already has the ‘upright torso’ element nailed. Consideration #8 Winter Bike Fit: Hands Correct handlebar width is a very important consideration for your winter bike.  Generally speaking, your bar width should be the same as the width between your shoulder joints (technically, the width of your shoulder girdle or even more technically the distance between your acromioclavicular joints). So, if your shoulder joints are 40cm apart, you’d choose bars which measure 40cm centre to centre.  But recent trends in cycling have pointed to both narrower and wider bars being recommended, often at the same time: Narrower for road racing, wider for endurance and gravel riding! Gravel riding in particular has normalized handlebar ‘drop-flare’ where the bars widen from the hoods to the drops often by huge amounts (the 3T Superghiaia bars on my Officine Mattio Santiago Gravel Bike, for example, are 44cm at the hoods and a massive 52cm at the drops).  The thinking here is that it provides a wider platform in your ‘locked in’ hand position to improve stability at speed. On the flipside, this means your ‘most stable’ hand position is also your lowest hand position which goes against the proven Downhill-MTB logic of ‘high hand position = less crashing position’.  Nothing is simple.  In fact, it’s a compromise like everything in life and at Precision Cycle Fit we are always looking for that ‘Optimum Compromise’ or Sweetspot. For winter road bikes, we’d always recommend a bar slightly wider than your summer road bike, maybe one or two sizes up.  Thus if you normally ride a 40cm bar in the summer, increase this to 42cm or 44cm because it provides more stability which is important for confidence when the roads are slippery. The stock bars on my 54cm Kinesis R2 Winter Bike in the photos are nearly as wide as my Gravel Bike bars at 44cm at the hoods and 50cm at the drops.  This felt very weird to start with, but I’ve quickly got used to them and have no intention of trying anything narrower. On the outside, the stock 44/50cm bars that came fitted to my 54cm Kinesis R2 (the 'drop-flare' is not noticeable on this photo). On the inside a set of Pro LT bars in a 38cm width. From a purely physiological perspective, bars this wide could be considered a bad thing because the outward rotation of the elbows causes an inward rotation of the shoulders, which is more likely to result in tightness in the shoulders and neck which needs to be balanced with the benefits the extra width is providing. Be aware that wider bars will also increase your effective reach to the hoods, and just as you were thinking bar width is complicated enough on its own, don’t forget the effect of cleat position, shoe stack, saddle fore/aft, short thickness, frame reach, stem length and bar height on your overall winter bike fit!  It’s one big interlinked system. Winter Bike Fit Summary In summary, winter riding: ·       Increases and reduces the effective saddle height. ·       Increases and reduces the effective reach and stack of the handlebars! Understanding all these elements does allow the home bike-fitter to attain a good winter riding position; after all its what most cyclists did before professional bike fitters appeared.
